What is justice4victims.org?

... justice4victims.org is a web-based organization which we intend to build and run with you. It's aim is to provide a service for all victims and potential victims of violent crime who feel denied justice and protection, and as a platform from which to launch and co-ordinate active campaigning for changes in British justice - changes which finally atone for the effect of violence on the victims, and the danger of violence to the public.
Regarding the conception of this project, whilst working academically and professionally with first the victims of crime, and then violent offenders, the founder of the organization noticed a distinct imbalance - only one general charity set up in support of crime victims, compared to an abundance which empower the offenders - although he worked impartially, this struck him as an extreme injustice.
In a culture characterized by Human Rights and rehabilitation discourse, we feel the balance must be tipped to re-introduce the factor of justice to the British criminal justice syste
m. We are now living in a country where a risk-assessment refers to the "risk" of professionals being sued or sacked, and police resources are more heavily invested into criminalizing road-users than protecting them.
More damaging though, in our opinion, is the ideological obsession of this country's politicians, that all offenders can be rehabilitated. In our professional experience, most (not all) can be, but few are (almost 80% of violent offenders in 2005 wer
e being reconvicted).
The figures severely undermine the efficiency, even the purpose, of our criminal justice agencies. In the meantime a reported two-thirds of the victims of violence feel their right to justice has been betrayed by a system they are legally compelled to rely on, in favour of the rights of the offender.
We at justice4victims.org consider this totally unacceptable, and call for a vote-of-no-confidence in the criminal justice agencies. We feel the police are no longer doing the job we pay them to do, and sentencing policy is now directed entirely toward opportunities, not punishment, for the offenders. Incidentally, the punitive approach to sentencing costs the state on average ten times that of the rehabilitative approach.
justice4victims.org does not necessarily support the Incarceration Method, nor condemn it; this organization pursues genuinely creative methods of justice, and seeks to see them put into action. Our FORUM page is the "engine-room" where we intend to make this happen, with your support. Offenders are clearly not intimidated by the punitive consequences of their behaviour - we intend to see that change.

Users of the site can be empowered by comprehensive criminal legislation, political agenda and insight into their offenders' behaviour (CRIMINOLOGY page) as well as provided with access to services and organizations to help them cope with the emotional impact of violent victimization, via our LINKS page. The website is interactive, and encourages users to share their experiences and advice, and even give their opinion in sentencing in each other's real-life cases, which we intend to use as a campaign
tool. Further additions to the site will be totally responsive to feedback from users, to ensure that we build this organization together and in the public interest. If ignored, we have very little faith in our authorities to redeem our justice; this problem is too far gone to simply improve; if you wish to take the first small steps that begin every journey, turn to our FORUM page, and e-mail us at:
