Legislation The purpose of this page is to empower users of the site with the knowledge to pursue their rights as victims, just as offenders and appeal defendants increasingly are. justice4victims.org encourages groups and individuals to zealously seek justice, by less conventional methods if necessary. However, this is a highly precarious course of action for those without legal knowledge, and one can all too easily find him/herself in trouble with the law. The criminalization and subsequent arrest of 'vigilantes' or 'activists' is a far easier task for the agencies, than directing resources (and therefore expectations) toward addressing the 'real' social problems of street crime, thug culture and violence. Modern anti-terror and anti-social behaviour legislation has also made it easier yet for the authorities to criminalize non-conformists, and when added to overall 'crime' figures, its inclusion has a vast relative impact on the perceived percentage success rate of police arrests. justice4victims.org would recommend that active users familiarize themselves with the contents of this page, as knowledge of the legislation listed within will be, we believe, fundamental to any just and successful overhauling of the criminal justice system. Direct action without knowledge and consideration of the legal factors severely undermines its credibility, as well as public support for the cause - justice4victims.org feels this very strongly, and will only lend its support to campaigns which have been effectively researched and fall within the legislative framework, as well as adhering to our ethos and values. Of course legislation can be discrepant and contradictory, and thus susceptible to forming loop-holes (as are consistently in, for example, human rights cases) - one simply need know where to look. Our comprehensive chronology may help you put opposing legislation into context. If you feel there is a fundamental area of legislation we have not included, tell us at contact@justice4victims.org, and, as with all users' proposals, we will look into its inclusion. We regret that no individual advisory correspondence can be entered into; for specific information on rights to legal recourse, representation and compensation, users are strongly advised to enter our LINKS page and go to the relevant agency's website.
